How can we eat healthy?
This week, we have been learning all about eating healthy and why it's important to choose healthy foods to eat.
We began by discussing the 3 meals we eat each day and the purpose of those three meals. Our class held a vote to predict which meal they felt was the most important!
This group believed breakfast was the most important.
This group predicted dinner was the most important.
Nicholas and Jayla predicted that lunch was the most important.
I love all three explanations that the children provided.
We also have been discussing the 5 different food groups. We are using "Choose My Plate" to teach the 5 food groups.
Today, the students were assigned a food group and were asked to create a poster to teach others about the different food items that make up their groups.
We focused on illustrating and labeling:
Wonder #9
Do you
get enough vitamins?
We are focusing on vitamin A, B, C, D, and E. We will research the types of foods we can eat to help us obtain these vitamins.

Linus The Minus To The Rescue
This week, we have been studying subtraction. Linus the Minus came to help us!
We used our manners at the lunch table!
Today, the kindergartener's were treated to a very special lunch! We had a white tablecloth lunch. The good manners that were shown throughout lunch were wonderful. Our napkins were in our laps, our elbows weren't on the table, we were chewing with our mouths closed, and we whispered quietly to our neighbors! Wow! I was so impressed!

Why is it important to brush our teeth?
Yesterday, we conducted an experiment using boiled eggs and dark colored drinks (Pepsi and coffee). We soaked the eggs in the liquids for the entire day to see what would happen.
Next, we removed the eggs and observed the changes that had taken place. We couldn't believe the amount of stain that had taken place on the eggs.
Lastly, we used a toothbrush and toothpaste to try and remove as much of the stain as possible. We learned that the Pepsi stain came off much easier than the coffee stain.
