All About Germs!

Today, we learned about germs and how quickly they can spread from each person.  We began by reading the book, Germs Make Me Sick

Next, we talked about the importance of never touch our "T-Zone" with our hands (Eyes, nose, and mouth).

After that, I put lotion on each child's hands and sprinkled glitter in only a few children's hands.  We talked about how the glitter symbolizes germs and that we were going to observe how fast germs can spread from person to person.

I then had the students walk around giving high fives and shaking hands.  The students were amazed with how fast the "germs" spread around our room.

At this point, I gave the students a paper towel and asked them to wipe ALL of the germs off of their hands.  They could not get the germs off and concluded the only way to remove all of the germs was to wash their hands with soap and water.  We all took turns washing our hands and watching the germs come off.

During snack time later in the day, I had students getting paper towels to put under their snack to make sure no germs got on their food.  I am so proud of everyone!
