How do evergreen trees protect their leaves?

We have learned from research that trees do one of two things to survive: shed their leaves or protect them.  Last week, we conducted 2 experiments to investigate how evergreen trees protect their leaves in the fall and winter.

We started the investigation by placing the same amount of water into two separate cups. We covered one with wax paper. After leaving the cups out overnight, we observed the changes:

We observed that the cup of water with the wax covering kept the most water inside.

Next, we used wax paper to press a green leaf.  Our prediction is that the waxy coating will stop our leaf from turning colors

We cannot wait to continue observing to find out what happens to our green leaf!
