"Why do some animals lay eggs but humans don't?"
"Why are there different types of eggs? Like some big and some small?"
"How do we even take care of a baby duck?"
"The mama duck sits on the eggs to keep them warm, but how are we going to keep them warm? If we sit on them, we will squish them."
After we finished our discussion, I reminded the kids that before we could adopt duck eggs, we had to ask Dr. Patterson for permission. We wrote persuasive letters to him as we asked to have the opportunity to hatch ducklings in our classroom. I don't know about you, but I think their letters are VERY convincing!
"Can we please hatch baby ducks? I will pretend to be it's mom."
"I will take care of the baby ducks. I will research."
"Can we have the duck? I will not scratch them. I will pretend that I am the mom."
"I will read to the baby ducks."
"Can we hatch baby ducks? I will play with them. I will research about them."
"Can we have baby ducks? We will not squish them."
Dr. Patterson, what do you think?
